Summer Living on Tumblingerstr.
Sunny day…hopefully Alex will move his hair appointment Frisörtermin, to a later date and share with me a rare glimps of day light. However, I need to clean my room and go shopping for groceries. Finally, a good day for a stroll.
The big talk around town is the flooding in Southern Bayern, just about 100 km outside of Munich. LandUnter! It was simply too much rain…a once in a 100-year storm event. I listened to the radio for a good part of the day yesterday and heard the word “Katastrophe” spoken a gazillion times… kinda like “Devastation” and “Hunkerdown”. I bought a local newspaper for the reading challenged, Abendzeitung, to get some insite into the situation. This is the kinda of stuff I wishfully tried to avoid in my last job. Hopefully, I will find out why this happened at all…
My Doppelganger in California asked me a few questions about life here in Munich. The people here are extremely friendly. Die deutsch Leute are very excited and supportive when they find out I am trying to learn the language. You get invited to the nice, non-touristy joints around the town. Also, Munich is a multi-cultural community people come from every where: Turkey, France, England, Spain, Czech-Republic, U.S.A…uzw. I can blend in pretty well here. However, I can always tell when the bus from Tenneessee arrives.
I live on my own for now. Alex works on a project in Regensburg, about 1 hour drive and I go to language school. My apartment is pretty decent in size. The apartment comes equipped with a stove and refrig, but no oven…no roasted red peppers or home-made flan for me Alex and I had to buy a closet; apartments here don’t come furnished with closets. IKEA is the best! There are two stores in Munich!
There is a shower (Die Dusche) with good hot water for a looooong time. Also, I have a nice balcony and a nice Bavarian neighbor who broke into my apartment through the balcony door when I accidently locked my keys inside (ok, you don’t need the keys to lock the door, end of story!). That happened on Week 2. His accent was so thick but from what I could tell he saved me 150 Euro to call a locksmith. Thanks!
There are laundry facilities in the complex but the dryers (der Trockner) could use some help…2 hours later our clothes were still wet. So I have to resort to drying the clothes inside the room. Check out the pictures of my room…the unedited version. Reviewer beware:
