Schönen Abend!
So I’ve gotta pack my bags tonight. I’ve got a 5 hour train ride to Hagen (basically in the area of Dortmund) with 7 minutes to change trains in Mannheim. I must be sure to arrive extra early at the München Hauptbahnhof because the last time I nearly missed the train. I will meet Alex in Hagen about 20 minutes later. He is in Frankfurt giving a presentation to students on public speaking.
Hagen is about 10 km from Iserlohn, the town where Alex’s parents and grandmother live. I will have the pleasure of meeting Alex’s brother, Martin, at the trainstation and his Oma a bit later on Friday. Both of them don’t speak any English so I’m on my own with the knowledge I’ve picked up in almost 3 months. Wow, it’s only been 3 months;it feels a month longer to me, strange…
Alex and I are in Iserlohn because my tourist visa will expire soon. On Monday, we will apply for the Aufenthaltsgenehmegung, or residence permit for my stay until I can register as a full-time student at a University.
I am not really sure what’s in Hagen except that the FernUni (the university I am currently registered as a student in Systems Engineering) is located there.
So I am experiencing a little bit of butterflies in my stomach with the advent of meeting Alex’s Oma. The last time I heard her voice was on her birthday and I didn’t know at the time how to say Happy Birthday while driving in Orlando traffic…I am hoping this meeting will be a little better.
