My Christmas gift from Alex; earthmover for a day!Alex gave me a gift that I was totally not expecting. There is a company called Jochen Schweizer and they offer just about everything to anyone who wants adventure: skydiving, rafting...and excavator driver! That's right. I receive an hours experience as the operator of heavy earth moving equipment, Ar Ar Ar! Alex heard me mention that I always wanted to play with one of these things as a kid, so now I've got a year to decide when I want to go....awesome.
So Sunday was the long awaited Cow Tongue! Oma said it would be her last time that she cooked her famous dish, but she seemed reluctant because it was afterall a tradition. Well have to see how she feels next year. But from what I could understand it is a lot of patient work to cook tongue. I woke up a little late that day and had a few pieces of toast just before Oma's mid-day meal was served, silly me. Before the main meal we had a clear soup with Butterk??chen (bread ball? hard to explain), very tasty. Then the tongue...I enjoyed it. Cow tongue is very soft but not chewy. The flavor was familiar to something else I have tried before, but for the life of me I can't place it (Bison steak?). I was a little afraid it would taste like liver, but nope. I would have it again and would like to see how it is made...aparently there is a tough outer skin that must be removed like a sleeve in order to get to the soft part...[sorry to the veggieheads out there].
