Last night I left Alex at home to study for his defense, while I met up with my friend, Eva, first at the Union Bräu to catch up on the previous month’s happenings and then to the Unterfahrt for a Jazz concert by Norwegian jazz singer, Solveig Slettahjell and her band the Slow Motion Quintet.
Seriously, if you get an opportunity to see her and her band perform live definitely take it, you won’t be disappoint. Sure the cd is great but there is nothing like being physically captivated by the music, involving all our your senses (almost, unless you want to smell the musicians.)
However, I think some of the listeners had a hard time paying attention because the music made quite a bit use of silence and an almost andante tempo. Two women in front of us keep whispering, moving, giggling and annoying pretty much everyone around them without a care. Just before they left after the second set started they lit up cigarettes, ignoring the no smoking policy and the imploring from their neighbors. :nono:
On a softer note, Solveig (don’t ask me how to pronounce her name) is a beautiful singer. I’d have her sing me a lullaby every night if I could. Here, you can have a peak.

She reminds me of Bjork in that they’re ‘out there’ compared to American stds. Must be a Scandanavian thing :tongue1:
Hi there – Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your site. Cool stuff!!
@ Pinger: And out there for German stds, quite a few people left before they finished, but those who stayed gave applause twice until they got two extra songs for the evening.
For one song they cycled the rhythm of a ping pong hitting the paddle and table. It took me awhile to figure out this sound, made me think of you. I thought it was pretty cool.
I agree, she sounds and looks a bit like Bjork. :ponder: I never thought I would say that about anyone! Steven and i flew all the way to Seattle to see Bjork in concert a few years back… memories!
