I stayed in Germany 18 months before I returned home. During that time I didn’t miss a thing. But since being back from our Florida visit, I’ve noticed a few things I slightly long for. I guess because (except for the boiled peanuts) we didn’t have time to see, do, or buy these things in December and January. As you’ll see, there were a few things I simply couldn’t pack with me on our return flight to Munich. Amusingly, most center around food and are written in no particular order.
- Boiled Peanuts
- Florida Strawberry Festival
- kayaking over open water with my red Dagger
- Albritton’s strawberry-orange juice
- cajun grouper sandwich on St. Pete Beach
- good ol’ native Florida southern accent
- Banana Now n’ Laters
- sunsets on Venice Beach with the live bluegrass band playing in the background
- Sunday night drum circle on Siesta Key
- Brach’s candy corn and caramel squares
- Skipper’s Smokehouse
- warm summer evenings and flipflops

hey, havent been blogging too much – exams everyday.
funny, about it being centered around food ;D
hope you’re healing quickly. Jim, whom you met in Sarasoat, Angies frined, said that accupuncture helped his broken knee?ankle? heal weeks faster. cool, huh?
what are the pros and cons of surgery?
Oh I sure miss the Grouper too. And the good old southern barbecue!
It’s funny though, now when I go back to FL I feel like a visitor.
@pinger: yeh, I kinda figured. I hope you find a break soon. I don’t think acupuncture is covered by my insurance but if I could make it down to Fort L. i’d let Paul test the theory
)
pros: stability, can play sports again, no longer imperative I body build my leg muscles to curb further damage
cons: have to go through the healing/PT again, obvious surgical risks, doesn’t guarantee I won’t injury it again.
@Maribeth: gosh, you’re right. I forgot about the bee-bee-Q! I can’t say I feel like a visitor though, not yet because I know so much about Florida. But it was awful weird returning there without a apt or car to come home to.
Boiled peanuts are gross, but once I ate one, it was hard to stop. Must have been the salt. :tongue1:
However, the strawberry festival is fun! When I used to live in Florida, my husband and I loved to buy those fresh strawberries by the case. They sold them at the Daytona Flea Market as well.
Hey Southern Gal,
I agree boiled peanuts are gross. But since I’m a salt nut, I don’t let their brown, squishy appearance stop me from diving into a huge crock pot of them.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing the b-peanut love.
Oh, I looooooooove boiled peanuts! We used to stop on vacation on our way to my grandparent’s house and get bags of them from roadside stands. They were fresh out of the pot and would burn our fingers as we shelled them, but they tasted so good I couldn’t stop eating them…
You’ve made my mouth water!
I grew up in Winter Park and left Florida when I graduated from UF in ’93. I usually don’t miss it– until I read something like what you wrote for #12. What I wouldn’t give for a warm summer evening and a pair of flip-flops right now…
