Obamamania in Germania

Senator Obama, Willkommen in Deutschland! Ah, to be an expat in Berlin. oh well. Yeah, Berlin is only 6 hours away from Munich by train but I don’t have a Bahn Card 50 to make the price of a train ticket even slightly palatable. I’m also not the rallying type.

So I will settle for tv/internet coverage. ZDF will be covering his speech at the blah-blah controversial Siegessäule. The original video stream hopefully can be found here, courtesy of ZDF, and should start around 7pm today (or 1 pm if you live on the east coast, USA).

All of Germany’s media has been having a heyday over this event. It seems the infatuation with the American-style politics/journalism can finally be put to use now that a political figure who is NOT-Bush is coming to Europe. It’s down right annoying. I’m a little miffed that Obama has stirred this kind of behavior in Germany and he is still only a candidate. But then again the major reason I’m supporting Obama is that he is willing to communicate with the rest of the world. That’s what I want in a leader. And wow, he not only says he’s going to do it, but he actually does. Way to take initiative. If no one is filling the roll adequately, then by all means, assume the position.
