bespectacled Frechdachs

“Frechdachs” is German for rascal or my favorite, cheeky monkey. Cracks me up.

The month of November was a pretty pivotal time for me. Had I known what this month would mean to everything–my relationship, and my future in Germany, I probably would have jotted my thoughts on paper instead of boohooing on Facebook and Twitter. It’s always nice to go back and see where my brain was at the time.

I did, however, capture this photo after I had a 3-hour interview (with no water or break). Before this day I thought this company would reject me or I would reject it. But on this day, there was more than promise in the air.

The view from the library at the Gasteig. Not only can you find a hidden treasure in the form of more than 50 meters of sheet music here, you can steal a glimpse of the city preparing itself for winter. By this time, I knew I had a new job waiting for me as soon as my work permit was processed.

November also took me to Florida for my first Thanksgiving since I moved to Germany. I loved it. It was a total break from the growing cold in Munich. My family followed our theme park tradition and visited IOA to get a swig of Butter Beer on the Harry Potter Island. We had a fun time searching for Sneeches, decent food and checking out sillies in pink hot pants.

While I enjoyed the warmth and company of my family, Alex was successfully working the clerks at the Arbeitsamt. We learned that it didn’t matter where I was registered rather the location of the company’s head quarters. Alex chatted up the one clerk responsible for the work permits issued to people working for my employer and made it really easy for him to complete my work permit in record timing or else he’d face more friendly pressure.

the quaint streets of Iserlohn

Once I arrived back in Munich, I needed to travel to Iserlohn to get my passport updated with an updated residence permit and transfer my registration to Munich. I spent the whole day traveling and missing trains one after another to complete 15 minutes of paperwork. It was on a day an abominable snow storm began to cause major travel pains for many throughout Germany. Still the winter madness could not dampen my jubilation–I was gonna be a working girl come December 2nd.

note: this was written 4 months after the date on this post. It’s the first day I’ve been able to come up for air. my sincerest apologies for my absence.
