Pickled Herring

I had lunch today with Alex's mom. She introduced me to pickled herring smothered in sour cream. I've been reluctant to eat it because.. well I don't really know why. Afterall, I like to try different things. We had it with boiled potatoes. And so..yeah, it's yummy. I want to stress that I liked it. Probably too fishy for most seafood light-weights. I know Janny, had a jar of this stuff in Florida when we roomed together, so this north German delicacy is not unknown to the U.S. So maybe some of you know the drawback to pickled herring.
The only downside to this meal is burping up pickled herring breath for hours after the meal. Yuck. It's worse than beer and radish burp breath.

it reminded me of a large sardine in texture, minus any bones.
But I'm with you-- the burps afterwards are a killer!
