Okay it’s settled. I never realized how many restaurants are closed on Mondays in Munich. So if you’d like to join Christina of AmiExpat.com and I for an outing and hopefully get to meet other expats: (bloggers and non-bloggers welcome as well as other English-speaking foreigners, or natives)
Happy Wallet Expat Meetup
When: Monday, 10th March 2008, 7:30pm
Where: Max Emanuel, Adalbertstr. 33, München
Directions: it is central (U-bahn U3, U6 Universität stop) - Exit the subway, train direction “OEZ or Garching", on the left hand side. You’ll exit on Leopoldstr. immediately to your left is Adalbertstr. Walk westard on Adalberstr. on the left hand side for about 400m (after the second intersection) and you’ll see it on the left side.

Max Emanuel Brauerei is pretty cozy, the food is standard fair and the prices are under the norm. In fact check out their price comparison page. They are possibly one of the few restaurants in Munich not out to rob you just because Germany changed from DM to Euros.

Leave a comment or PM me if you want to join and I’ll set up the reservation.

photo by Jessicafm Due to a scheduling conflict, this event is postponed. Stay tuned for an update. Leave a comment anyway if you are interested in meeting up in Munich in the future.
So I’m getting brave and trying to organize a multi-culti expat and friends dinner on Thursday, the 13th of March. Since Christina is heading to Munich next week and we’ll be in transition between apartments, I figured we’ll need a mini-culinary vacation.
There is just so much Schnitzel, Knödeln, and Käsespätzle an expat can eat before other cravings get out of control. I’m opting for a far East change and sitting around a round table with a lazy susan (dumbwaiter, Drehtisch) seems sort of fun. We can leave the long rectangular “Bierbank” tables for another day. Think about it. Tasty Dim Sum dishes circling by.. yum.
So if you’d like to join us for an outing and get to meet other expats: (bloggers and non-bloggers welcome. Plus, not just for foreigners, natives are welcome too)
Expat Din Sum Meetup
When: Thursday, 13th March 2008, 7:30pm
Where: China Restaurant Jade- Hofangerstr. 7, Munich
Directions: U-5 Michaelibad - Take the exit to Hechtseestraße, and walk along Hofangerstraße for about 100m and you’ll see it on the left side.
China Jade is by far the best Chinese food in Munich. They serve delicious Cantonese style dishes with dinners costing 9-22 Euro Not cheap, but worth every bite.

Oh. I’m so excited. Yet still I’m a tad bit apprehensive about suggesting a Chinese style dinner. One of the parallels I’ve witnessed in eating norms between U.S. Americans and Germans is that for the most part people are comfortable having and eating from their own dish of choice. Aghast! Sharing! What if I don’t like what the others have ordered? What if everyone eats from my chosen dish so I’m left with scraps and other oddities I don’t care for? I’m vegetarian, there’s no way I coming near duck. [Sigh] I wouldn’t want to put picky eaters anyone in that position. Even though I love a traditional family-style dinner, it doesn’t have to be with the whole group. And I’d still I’d offer a sample to those who hug their plates tightly.
See you there.
