Imported from B2evolution(2.4.6) to Wordpress (2.8)

The platform switching is done.. at 80%! There is still lots to do with the media file transfer, which I’m not too excited about and I may want to eliminate some of these ancient posts. hm. not sure. Is a trip down memory lane something I have time for? Not.

I wanted a new and separate database for this fresh install of Wordpress. When I installed Wordpress 2.7 and there was immediately  a banner announcing a new version 2.8 available. With two clicks the update was completed. That was easy. I’m liking this already. So on to the content migration.

Many websites went with the suggestion to go ahead and add the wp tables with the existing b2e tables for easy transfer. puh. Even if I did want to go that route the migration still remained an enigma with all the outdated scripts out there.

So I went with the option two: converting the old blog content to “Movable Type ASCII export” format and then importing the results it into Wordpress. It’s easy if you have a 2.0 b2e skin that converts the posts to MT format -then it works great! Well, now you do:

1. Download this skin: b2e_mt-export The name of this skin is called ‘basic’. If you have a similarly named skin, BACKUP YOUR CURRENT SKIN. Now upload the .zip file onto your server and extract it into your b2evolution skin folder.

2. Install the new skin ‘basic’ into b2evolution through the backoffice.

3. Select the skin ‘basic’ and view the blog in your browser. Choose to view the source code (View >  Source Code or Ctrl + U). Save the source code to file and import this directly into the Wordpress install.

This worked for my installed version of B2evolution 2.4.6. Hope it works for you and saved you some time doing it.

I’m not worried about permanent links or page ranking so I’m ignoring that side effect of the migration if it exists.
