dogsitting :: Muffin’s first day

IMAGE_muffin day 1Well the little wurst is zonked out and I’m about to follow her. She arrived last night instead of this morning and handled it pretty well. We went for an early walk to the Isar River but took awhile because she and I are both breaking the leash tugging habit. It’s hard when she’s got enough energy for 10 horses. But I’m being the tree, damn it!

There may not be an enclosed area exclusively for dogs near the Munich city center but most live close enough (walking distance) to the river or the Englischer Garten to allow dogs the freedom to roam without the leash or worry of being hit by a car. I was told there is a leash law implemented here but it’s relaxed along the river. Gosh I hope. I don’t want to be slapped with a 40 Euro fine. I can’t really fain that I don’t know German or the rule. There was only one time I met a nice but annoying barefoot lady doing yoga complaining that the dog wasn’t on the leash and she didn’t want to step in dog doo. I wanted to tell the lady she had a better chance of her toes meeting swan sh1t or broken glass than dog pooh, but whatever. The “renaturization” of the Isar in my area makes it especially enjoyable both for me, the sitter, and the dog. She loved playing in the sand piles, in the river, along the pebble shore and meeting the occasional dog passerby.

Afterwards we worked on allowing me to leave the house without her freaking out. That took several hours of building her tolerance of being locked indoors alone. Only once did she bark semi-hysterical because I moved to fast. Every time I came back inside, whether it was 2 seconds later or 3 minutes later and finally acknowledged her, she walked by her toybox, grabbed something she wanted and then walked on to her bed, where I sat down beside her and petted her until she closed her eyes. Dog’s are cool like that. It’s been fun and she’s truly a super dog. I think this is going to be an easy week. I hope :.
