Her poor German and the 3.90€ per maki roll brought me much comfort after a whirlwind lecture. Since it wasn’t raining we decided to walk toward to the subway near LMU but then found ourselves drawn to what was going on at Odeonsplatz around 10:30 at night.

What’s this: Two giant glowing swans? A man in the moon, hot air balloon? A sweet melody from Camille Saint-Saens’, The Swan, while a collage of pictures of Munich’s finest/infamous history unfolded?

We got caught up in a open air, 360°+, munich-ized, cirque du soleil rehearsal which lasted until shortly before midnight. It is so sad I didn’t have my camera with me. It was debatable whether we’d see the actual performance live, as we had a bike tour of 3 lakes (Ammersee, Pilzensee and Wörthsee) and a Tracht wearing, birthday party on Saturday in the works.

It turns out it rained like cats and dogs last night and I was an exhausted mess after 50+km. I feel like a lucky duck that we saw the show and walked away with dry feet -albeit minus the costumes, but feel sorry for the performers. Friday night was the only night it didn’t rain and the evenings before, the rehearsal were also sparse due to the weather.

I won’t attempt to describe München Revue. But if you are curious:

Maybe a video will come out soon on the net. It’s an artsy way of running through Munich’s history.

This weekend in Munich, there will be an free open air festival (19.07.2008 – 20.07.2008). On Saturday, the festivities begins at 2 pm and lasts until 4 in the morning. Open times for Sunday are 12pm – 6pm.

The Old Town Ring Festival (er, better to say Altstadtringfest) is touted to be the biggest and most spectacular event to celebrate Munich’s 850th Birthday. There will be over 500 various types of participants supporting the event.

The heart of the festival is at Maximiliansplatz on Max-Joseph-Straße. But there will be other events held at Stachus, Odeonsplatz, and Marstallplatz.

Music and Art exhibits will be at Wittelsbacherplatz and at Sendlinger Tor be sure to check out some live bands, DJs, a music machine and.. oooh a robot!

Tomorrow is the only promising day not fitted to rain, so it should be a great event.

Begeisterung! What a crazy match between Germany and Turkey. Since there are lots of Turkish decedents living in Germany either way it was going to be a wild night.

We sat on our couch again and watched with bated breath as the game unfolded just as boring as the last two times Germany lost their nerve. Oh no. Twelve minutes into the game a fire lit under their feet but Turkey was still the first to score. Ugh. Then Germany scored to tie things up for half time.

The game would have had a normal sense of tension to it but there was a huge storm in Vienna, which broke transmission of the game several times during the night. Even though we sat alone at home, it was as if we were sitting with everyone in the neighboring buildings as they cry out in either joy when Germany scored or in annoyance when the picture disappeared.

We almost didn’t see Germany score their second goal had it not been piped directly from Basel. Although Turkey’s second goal, 4 minutes before the end of the second half, wasn’t fully realized because of a one second sound delay.

Germany had a beautiful set up and gained their third goal of the evening, 1 minutes to go! The referee added 3 minutes of delay time, plenty of time for notorious Turkey to score again. I couldn’t look any more.

Here was the scene outside our apartment after the match. The jubilee lasted until about 1am.
