Normally, I am not a fanatic of large tourist events, but this is one of the exceptions. Normalt är jag inte en fanatiker av stora turist-evenemang, men detta är ett av undantagen. The Wiesn reminds me a little of the Strawberry Festival and the Florida Football Games, for the food and the camaraderie. Den Wiesn påminner mig lite om de Strawberry Festival och Florida fotbollsmatcher, för mat och kamratskap. You don’t smell fried foods too much here but lots of meat. Du behöver inte luktar stekt mat för mycket här, men massor av kött. I just walked through the Wiesn and had me a Schweinhaxn’ Semmel for lunch, aka fatty pork with a bun. Last year, I saw pictures of the Bierzelte (Beer Tents) and they really don’t do them justice. Förra året såg jag bilder av Bierzelte (Beer tält) och de verkligen inte gör dem rättvisa. There are 12 different Bierzelte at the Oktoberfest, each tent serving one of the 6 beers brewed in Munich (there are two other Zelte for wine and other beers not brewed in Munich). Det finns 12 olika Bierzelte på Oktoberfest, varje tält som betjänar en av de 6 öl bryggt i München (det finns två andra Zelte för vin och andra ölsorter inte bryggs i München). The 6 Brauereien are: Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Augustinerbräu, Hacker-Pschorr-Brau, Spatenbrau, and Paulanerbräu. Tyvärr inga Erdinger ... men det är i krokarna. Each Bierzelt takes about 3 months to construct over the Theresienwiese (Theresa’s fields). Naturally, people come for the beer and lots of it. Naturligt, människor kommer för öl och massor av det. Over the 2 week festival, approximately 6 Million people come to visit and consume about 6 Million Maßkrüge (basically, it’s that big mug that’s as big as my head). Under de 2 vecka festivalen, omkring 6 miljoner människor kommer att besöka och förbrukar cirka 6 miljoner Maßkrüge (i grund och botten är det att stora mugg som är lika stor som mitt huvud). I made the mistake of calling it a “Stein” but the Bavarians correctly call it a “Krug”. Jag gjorde misstaget att kalla det en "Stein" men bayrare riktigt kalla det en "Krug". They are made of glass or cermaic and hold about 1 Liter of Bier. De är tillverkade av glas eller cermaic och håll ca 1 liter Bier. I would agree, the glass is better. Jag håller med om, att glaset är bättre. There is nothing like singing “Ein Prosit, Ein Prosit!” and smashing your Krug against your neighbor’s. And your neighbor could be anyone from around the world. Och din granne kan vara vem som helst från hela världen. Just around my table, I met a handful of people from California. Precis runt mitt bord, jag träffade en handfull människor från Kalifornien. I sat with my classmates and they come from Burma, Spain, Japan, and Venezuela. Jag satt med mina klasskamrater och de kommer från Burma, Spanien, Japan och Venezuela. We ended up share our Bierbanken (the table benches) with some local Baviarian men dressed in the traditional Trachten , that is, die Liederhosen . Vi hamnade delar våra Bierbanken (tabellen bänkar) med vissa lokala Baviarian män klädda i den traditionella Trachten, det vill säga dö Liederhosen. There is something about the Liederhosen I find attractive, now if only I could convince Alex! Det är något om Liederhosen jag finner attraktiv, nu om jag bara kunde övertyga Alex! The women wear a dress called, das Dirndl . Kvinnorna bära en klänning kallas, das Dirndl. The Dirndl style ranges from very traditional to that’s-just-sleezy. Den Dirndl stil varierar från mycket traditionella till that's-bara-sleezy. Also there are house rules; one of them happens to be NO Dancing. Dessutom finns det hus regler, en av dem råkar vara NO Dancing. But after about 5 pm there is nothing to stop the people from standing on the tables and shaking their booty to the YMCA! Men efter ca 5 pm det finns ingenting som hindrar folk från att ställa upp på bord och skakar sina bytet till YMCA! A Maß of bier costs between 6,80 - 7,25 Euro and people like to steal the mugs for a souvenir so the security people check your bag to retrieve the property. En massa av Bier kostar mellan 6,80 - 7,25 Euro och tycker om att stjäla muggar för en souvenir så trygg människor kontrollera din väska för att hämta egendomen.

Next weekend is Italien Wochende, where droves of Italians come to the festival. Nästa helg är Italien Wochende, där stora grupper av italienarna kommer till festivalen. They even bring their own police because most of the drunk Italians don’t speak any German. De även sätta sina egna poliser eftersom de flesta av de berusade italienare inte talar någon tyska. Alex and I will attend the Oktoberfest together on Sunday, I am hoping to see the rest of the Bierzelte that I missed today, each one has a different atmosphere. Alex och jag kommer att delta i Oktoberfest tillsammans på söndag, jag hoppas att se resten av Bierzelte som jag missade i dag, var och en har en annan atmosfär.
